Years ago, my wife hosted a women’s conference on a cruise. She asked me to be one of the opening speakers for her conference. In that message, I shared the Biblical story of Rahab who became an ancestress of Jesus. The heart of the message was that your past didn’t matter and that faith in God can deliver you from your past and get you into the wonderful future God has for you. The Spirit of God did amazing things in that service. Around that time, I wrote in my prayer journal the idea to turn that message into a book.
Last year, I turned that message into an advent devotional called, Jesus, Son of Rahab: A Restorative Devotional For The Cancelled & Disqualified. In this book, I walk through the lives of Jesus’ ancestors and show how God uses imperfect people to fulfill His plan. If God could use the ancestors of the Messiah, I know He can use us!
The devotional was released during the holidays last year and did well. But something happened this Spring that shocked me. It’s a Christmas devotional, but it shot to the top of Amazon’s charts in May. It was #1 in multiple categories ahead of legendary Christian authors that I respect, admire, and learn from. I was not expecting this; a friend of mine was the one who informed me. In fact, this friend had just shared with me a few days prior what God placed on his heart concerning me and the future I was walking into. He screenshot the rankings and sent it to me as additional confirmation of what the Lord shared with Him.
I truly believe in the message of this book and I encourage you to read through it this December. Have you ever felt like God could not use you because of your past?
